Introduction to Seasons and Weather:
There are four seasons in a year: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall . Weather changes occur during different seasons. Temperature is the measurement of cold or hot. Weather changes occur during different seasons.
Weather Instruments :
Using simple weather instruments can enrich one’s understanding of weather. A thermometer is used to measure temperature. Wind is observed using a wind vane. Wind is air that is moving. A rain gauge can help measure precipitation. Precipitation is water that falls from the clouds. (rain, freezing rain, snow, sleet, and hail).
Type of Weather:
There are weather events such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, and hurricanes. A thunderstorm is a combination of strong winds and heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning. A tornado is a violent wind that looks like a funnel-shaped cloud; its spinning winds touch the ground. Hurricanes are storms that have very strong winds.
Type of Seasons:
Seasons are periods in a year marked by specific weather conditions, temperatures, and length of the days. Most modern day calendars around the world divide the year into 4 seasons: spring, summer, fall (autumn), and winter.
Spring – March to May
Summer – June to August
Autumn – September to November
Winter – December to February
During the winter months the current year ends and a new year starts. The days are shorter and often very cold. Sometimes the precipitation will fall as sleet and snow, and quite often we wake up in the morning to frost and ice on the floor.
The sun rises in the earlier hours of the morning and sets later on in the afternoon. The days get slightly warmer. Spring flowers start to appear, birds start building their nests and the farmers deliver new-born lambs. Weather in spring is very varied.
Summer is something we usually all look forward to. The days become both warmer and longer, the sun shines, and the school holidays provide us plenty of time to go out and enjoy ourselves. Although sunny weather is very fun and we can spend more time outside, the sun’s rays can harm our bodies.
Autumn is a season filled with change. Days become shorter and, although it is often warm and sunny during the daytime, it can be cold at night. In Autumn, leaves fall off the trees and hedges. Additionally, Autumn can bring strong winds and a lot of rain.
